ASI Standards Committee

The ASI Standards Committee (SC) was first convened in 2016 and is comprised of representatives elected by all ASI members from the Production and Transformation, Industrial Users and Civil Society membership classes, plus 2 nominated representatives from the Indigenous Peoples Advisory Forum.  Elections are held every two years.

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) – Secretary for Tribal Affairs

Father Nicholas Barla, a graduate in law and business administration, is a native of Sambalpur in Odisha, eastern India. For the past 24 years, he was engaged in various issues, affecting the lives of the tribal people in Odisha, especially in Rourkela and Sambalpur.

1. Marie-Josée Artist, Indigenous Village Leaders (VIDS) in Suriname

Marie-Josée is a representative of the Association of Indigenous Village Leaders (VIDS) in Suriname.  She has also worked as a lecturer in cultural anthropology, and a project co-ordinator at Skanfonds, a Dutch Fund which provides opportunity to people in vulnerable positions to participate in society, so that their quality of life improves.

2. Gina Castelain, Wik Projects – Managing Director

Gina Castelain is a Wik and Wik Way woman, whose traditional country includes the Aurukun wetlands. Her mother, Norma Chevathun, was a prominent indigenous leader in the 1980s-90s and one of the original Wik native title claimants. Gina is Managing Director of Wik Projects which operates two local indigenous businesses.

3. Robeliza Halip, Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact – Institutional Support Service Section Head 

Ms. Robeliza Halip belongs to the Kalanguya tribe of Ifugao and the Kankanaey tribe of Mt. Province in the Cordillera Region, Philippines. Prior to joining AIPP, she has been actively involved in human rights work in the Cordillera Region and has likewise been involved in the government working as the information officer of the provincial government of Ifugao and consequently the consultant on Indigenous Peoples Affairs of the Chairman of the National Cultural Communities Committee in the 15thCongress. Her educational background is in biology.

4. Samin Ngach, Cambodia Indigenous Youth Association – IPHRDA Project Coordinator

LOLS10在线直播下注Samin is a Project Coordinator for Indigenous Human Rights Defender and Advocacy (IPHRDA) programs for the Cambodia Indigenous Youth Association (CIYA). CIYA works to build capacities concerning the human rights concept, advocacy and laws relevant to Indigenous peoples; it gathers data and documents Indigenous peoples’ human rights violations concerning issues such as mining and dams.

Tetra Pak – Senior Materials Engineer Aluminium Foil, Supply Chain Organization

Tina Björnestål joined Tetra Pak in January 2009. She is the Sustainability Leader for Aluminium Foil in the Technology Team of Base Materials and has been leading the ASI certification as well as the CO2 emission reduction initiative with Tetra Pak’s suppliers.

LOLS10在线直播下注Tina has 18 years of international experience in metal manufacturing & development, equipment sourcing & project management, supply strategy development & supplier management, production process & organizational auditing. Her career started in 2000 at Boliden Mineral AB with a focus on copper electrolyses, followed by a materials research project at Sandvik AB. In 2004, she joined Siemens’ Industrial Turbomachinery Group focusing on technical supplier support and strategic purchasing. Tina successfully led 150+ system and process audits at Tetra Pak’s capital equipment suppliers. She drove continuous improvement, conducted and developed training materials, e.g. Environmental Basics.

BMW – Senior Manager Non-Ferrous Metals, Raw Material Management/ Purchasing Department

Michael Frosch spent over 10 years in corporate and investment banking before joining BMW Group’s Financial Services Division in 2005. From 2011 till 2019, Michael had various functions within the corporate strategy and planning department of BMW Group. In 2020, he joined the Purchasing and Supplier Network Division being responsible for purchasing non-ferrous and precious metals, including most aluminium volumes.

Daimler AG – Quality Engineer 

After studying mechanical engineering with a focus on aluminium casting and forming technology, I did my PhD thesis for Volkswagen AG to improve light metal high pressure die casting process simulation.I worked in total 7 years for two aluminium casting parts suppliers for automotive application in different positions like process development, R&D and technical consulting. Finally, I started working for Daimler AG in 2011. The first 6 years, I was in RD for material and casting parts development & internal technical consulting, since 3 years l’m responsible quality engineer for purchased aluminium parts worldwide. Currently l’m one of the so-called sustainability ambassadors, who, among other tasks, manages ASI-related topics together with our sustainability department, like integration of ASI in our supplier network.

Stefan Rohrmus graduated in Industrial Engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 1996.

Participant in the International Traineeship of Daimler (Automotive Industry). Various positions as Quality Manager within Daimler in fabrication plants and the Headquarter.

Fluently in English, Spanish and French. Work experience abroad in Argentina and Spain.

Schüco International is a building envelope specialist and one of the market leaders for window, façade and door systems. The amount of energy required by buildings is essentially determined by the building envelope. Façade products will play a key role in future energy-neutral buildings.

Arconic Inc. – Director, Environmental Affairs and Compliance

Tony has a BS in chemical engineering and has worked in for Alcoa Inc (current Arconic Inc) since 1990. Tony has significant experience in all facets of environmental issues and compliance with the entire aluminium production cycle (from bauxite mining toand through multiple end-uses). Tony’s experience also extends across the globe in the aluminium industry and includes work at research and development (R&D), manufacturing and corporate positions within Alcoa. Tony assumed the Director –Environmental Affairs of Alcoa Inc in 2015 and has most recently included work vis-à-vis sustainability with internal metrics development, setting internal targets and plans to attain those metrics.

IUCN – Deputy Director, Business and Biodiversity Programme

Giulia’s current / recent responsibilities include the management of the Western Gray Whale Advisory Panel, the development of the recommendations for responsible business operations in and around KBAs, and the development of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative’s performance standard.

LOLS10在线直播下注I am a biochemist/biologist, have a PhD in aquatic ecology and have in my scientific career also several taxonomic publications on my name; have been a civil servant for two Dutch Ministries; worked as a consultant in the field of landscape planning and international environment (a.o. coal transport) for DHV Consultants; worked in South Africa with Stewart Scott Consultants; I have had a political career (a.o. vice president of the Dutch labour party, member of the provincial parliament of North Holland and member of the European Parliament); I have been the managing director renewables and executive vice president sustainability at Nuon NV; and one of the directors of the State Forestry Service of the Netherlands.

I have served on advisory committees (environment; development aid; sustainability; CO2 trading) of the Dutch Government.

I have been president of several NGO’s (FOEI Netherlands, Stichting AAP etc.); member of the works council of DHV consultants; and member of the Council of the LOLS10在线直播下注 of Wageningen.

At the moment I am executive president of Chimbo Foundation; president of the executive board of Daridibó (Guinea Bissau); and executive president of FRES (Foundation Rural Energy Services).

WWF – Senior Advisor Sustainable Business 

Justus is Manager Sustainable Business & Markets at WWF Germany, based in Berlin.  He has expertise in the Circular Economy, knowledge of standards setting and metrics, and a background in international management and cooperation. Justus founded and managed a renewable energy company while obtaining his Masters of Science (International Management). He has experience at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, has worked in insurance, consulting and sales, and is now working for WWF on the Circular Economy and Planetary Boundaries.

Settle Ghana – Executive Director

Abu Karimu is a Ghanaian by birth. Abu is the executive director of indigenous rights organisation called Settle Ghana. He is also a member of the ASI human rights working group and is a member of IPAF. As a media practitioner, Abu has produce a documentary for ASI on the aluminium value chain in Ghana.

WOCAN (Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management) – W+ coordinator 

Maria Lee is the Coordinator of the W+ Standard (www.wplus.org), which quantifies the impact of projects on women’s empowerment. Maria holds a Master’s degree in socio-economics and international development from the LOLS10在线直播下注 Pierre-Mendes-France (Grenoble-France). Her experience spans working across diverse development projects with non-government organizations, civil-society networks and international organizations in, West Africa, Europe and Asia. Her professional career has focused on rural development, youth employment and child labour in agriculture and gender equality.

Nomogaia – Executive Director

Kendyl is the Executive Director of NomoGaia, a non-profit research organization specializing in corporate human rights due diligence. She is also a principal consultant at Spective Solutions, conducting Human Rights Impact and Risk Assessments in mining, petroleum, manufacturing, agriculture, food and beverage, technology and finance industries. She holds a PhD in Epidemiology from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, an MA in Journalism from the LOLS10在线直播下注 of British Columbia, and a BA in History from Princeton LOLS10在线直播下注.

Fauna and Flora International – Senior Technical Specialist

Samir has worked on environmental management with the corporate sector for over 13 years, first with a civil engineering company and in the oil&gas industry and then with several international NGOs. His work has focussed on helping companies screen and manage environmental risk, and developing action plans to meet lender, such as the International Finance Corporation, requirements. Samir has also worked with the mining and oil&gas sectors on developing and implementing biodiversity offset and other compensation strategies. He has led the development and management of several strategic partnerships with the corporate sector, mobilising corporate partners and NGOs to work together on achieving shared conservation objectives. Samir has an MSc in Environmental Chemistry and an MPhil in Conservation Leadership, focusing primarily on biodiversity offsets in the mining sector

Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB) – Project Manager Migrant Workers and Work With Dignity

Neill manages all aspects of the IHRB Migrant Workers programme and helped oversee the development of the – a set of human rights based principles that offer a clear framework for understanding the recruitment and employment of migrant workers worldwide. The current focus for the programme is ethical recruitment and in particular the payment of recruitment fees by migrant workers. IHRB are working with others to promote increased due diligence by business and establish the principle of “employer pays” (the cost of recruitment) as the norm across all industry sectors and locations.

Constellium – VP Group Sustainability & Public Affairs Europe

LOLS10在线直播下注Catherine Athènes has over 25 years’ international experience in corporate strategy, marketing, sales and sustainability. Having started her career as a strategy consultant, she spent nine years at Pechiney, the major French aluminium and packaging company which was then bought by Alcan. After a period in the medical paper business, she joined Constellium in 2011 as the Marketing Director for its biggest business unit, Packaging & Automotive Rolled Products. Having lead the creation of the Sustainability Council she drove the sustainability agenda of Constellium including its participation in the early stages of ASI. Since 2018 Catherine is both in charge of driving the company-wide sustainability strategy in close relationships with business units and plants, and of the Public Affairs European agenda.

TRIMET – Chief Compliance Officer & General Counsel

Gesa Jauck joined TRIMET in 2014 as Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel. As lawyer for TRIMET she is admitted to the bar in Germany. Since many sustainability aspects are strongly linked to compliance aspects she is also responsible for sustainability within TRIMET.

Gesa has 20 years of international experience in law, compliance and sustainability- namely in responsible sourcing. She started her career as lawyer in an international law firm. In 2004, she moved on to the German legal department of Arcelor (later ArcelorMittal). In 2011, she moved to ArcelorMittal Global Purchasing in Luxembourg. Among others, she took on the responsibility for the “Responsible Sourcing Program” with a worldwide scope.

She implemented the Conflict Minerals Program (from design to disclosure) following OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas.

Alcoa – Sustainability Vice President and Alcoa Foundation – President

LOLS10在线直播下注Sustainability Vice President and President Alcoa Foundation since November 1st 2016. Previously, she served as President of Alcoa Spain since March 1st, 2014.

LOLS10在线直播下注Rosa joined Alcoa in 1999 to work as a Process Engineer for the San Ciprian Smelter and Refinery in Spain. In 2001, she moved to the Corporate EHS Audit Department, working with the North American and European Audit Teams first in Pittsburgh and then in Madrid. In 2003, she moved back to San Ciprian to take over the Environmental Department as Environmental Manager for the Smelter and the Refinery.

LOLS10在线直播下注Her first role with European wide responsibility arrived in 2005 when she was named Director Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) for the Primary Products Business Unit. Following this position, she was appointed Sustainability Director for the European Region in 2008 and her role was expanded to cover Government Affairs as Director of Regional Affairs and Sustainability in 2012, overseeing government interactions in the different countries where Alcoa has interests and sustainability activities across Europe.

Novelis – Director of Sustainability

Jessica Sanderson is the Director of Sustainability at Novelis, the world’s leader in aluminium rolling and beverage can recycling. At Novelis, Jessica engages with a multitude of stakeholders to progress Novelis’ ambitious sustainability goals, including becoming the low-carbon aluminium producer. In this position, Jessica stresses the importance of understanding the environmental footprint of a product throughout its entire lifecycle and developing a sustainability strategy that supports the business. Prior to joining Novelis, Jessica worked in the areas of sustainability and product safety at LOLS10在线直播下注G Corporation, a building materials manufacturer. She earned her MBA at DePaul LOLS10在线直播下注, Masters of Public Health at Tulane LOLS10在线直播下注 and graduated from Tulane undergraduate in Cell and Molecular Biology.

Hydro – Head of Climate Office

Jostein is currently Head of Hydro’s Climate office, with the responsibility for climate policy, climate strategy development and climate accounting.  He is also responsible for implementation of ASI in Hydro’s organization, where 27 sites have been certified so far.

Jostein has been working with sustainability issues for 23 years, covering issues like Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), sustainability reporting and communication, environmental management projects and climate strategy development.  Jostein has actively participated in ASI since the beginning in 2012 and was also an active participant in ASI’s predecessor Responsible Aluminium from 2009.  Jostein was elected as the industry co-chair of the Standard Setting Group from 2013-2015 and as the industry co-chair of the Standards Committee from 2016-2020.

Norðurál – Century Aluminium Company – HSE Manager

I got my master’s degree in Denmark’s Technical LOLS10在线直播下注 in 2007.  My Bachelor project was on hydrogen as an energy source.  During my master’s degree I worked in the department of Combustion and Air pollution control and my masters project was on waste as an energy source.  In 2010 I also finished Leadership training and Project management in the LOLS10在线直播下注 of Iceland.

After graduation I worked in the shipping industry in logistic and cost control.  Since 2011, I have been working at Nordural, an aluminium smelter in Iceland.  For the first years I was in the environmental specialist but have been HSE Manager since January 2018.
